They had asked for a letter that outlined why I'd fit in a there. I decided that long, wordy cover letters are as boring to read as they are to write. Also, they could never accurately describe my personality or approach to my work and how that relates to SAS's culture. Therefore, I decided that an illustration made specifically for the application would be a nice personal touch, rather than an impersonal email which I could have just cc'd to ten other companies. Inside the envelope it was sent in, there was a large A1 poster and a perforated sheet of tear-out cards to play with. To play the game, you pin the poster up on your office's noticeboard and use coloured pins to mark each player's position on the board. The game was much like snakes and ladders, but instead of rolling dice, at the start of your turn, you draw a card and read aloud the text printed on the back. The cards pose questions to be answered truthfully and which reward nice, conscientious employees by allowing them to move forward on the but penalises selfish and disorganised people by leaving them behind. First to reach the star at the top of the tree was the winner. The publication served as a catalogue for the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication 2011 degree show at Bath Spa University. The theme of the show was 'Checkout' and the catalogue design was inspired by purchase receipts and dot-matrix printing. They appear on leaflets, T-shirts, tote bags and a few other applications.
